A Brief Explanation on Taking ScreenShots ...

The ability to take screenshots is turned off by default.
To enable it, follow the simple steps below.
Once enabled, take in game screenshots
by pressing the F12 key.

1) Locate your config.cfg file
2) Default location is C:\Program Files\Tread Marks 1.5\
3) Open the file, config.cfg, in any text editor [ ie: notepad ]
4) Copy the following lines and paste them at the bottom
#Animation frame saving. (F12)
AnimDir = C:\TempShots\tank
AnimFPS = 15
5) You are done
6) Save the file and close notepad
7) Now, while you are playing TreadMarks,
     tap the F12 key once
     wait for one second
     tap the F12 key a second time
     and you will now have a screenshot of TreadMarks
     in the folder C:\TempShots\
A brief note...
Tapping the F12 key the 1st time, starts a series of screenshots.
Tapping the F12 key the 2nd time, stops the series of screenshots.
Waiting for one second, inbetween, insures you get one screenshot, maybe two.
The screenshots are numbered tank0001.bmp, tank0002.bmp, tank0003.bmp, etc.

Now, a long-winded explanation ...

[[ First Note ]] §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§

You need to know the location on your hard drive where TreadMarks was installed.
Default location is
C:\Program Files\Tread Marks 1.5
If you bought TreadMarks when it was distributed by eGames, this is the default install path:
C:\Program Files\eGames\Treadmarks\Game
But since you can install TreadMarks any where, you need to find this path location.
This is typically what you will find in the TM root folder:
AddOns   < DIR >
art         < DIR >
entities   < DIR >
Local     < DIR >
Maps     < DIR >
objects   < DIR >
sound    < DIR >
scores   < DIR >
Server Commands.txt
The file, config.cfg, is the file you need.
Double click this file, config.cfg, and choose notepad to open it.
Here are 2 sample config.cfg files :
the config.cfg file from TreadMarks v1.0.1
the config.cfg file from TreadMarks v1.6
[[ use the browser's back button to come back to this page ]]

[[ Second Note ]] §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§

Again, here are the lines to copy and paste...
at the bottom of the config.cfg file:
#Animation frame saving. (F12)
AnimDir = C:\TempShots\tank
AnimFPS = 15
Other Notes...
The folder   C:\TempShots\   does not need to exist,
TreadMarks will create it for you.
also, this path:
can be anything you want... within reason of course.
don't use spaces in the folder name,
and shorter names are always better than longer names...
but you could use   C:\Shots\   or   C:\TMShots\   or
if you have a 2nd hard drive... D:\Tempshots\   would work...
etc. etc., i think you get the idea.

[[ Third Note ]] §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§

The screenshot folder contents...
screenshot folder
TreadMarks saves your screenshots as .bmp files,
and you can use any image viewing program to look at them.
You will notice that the word "tank" is in front of each file name.
That comes from this line in the 3 lines that you copied and pasted...
AnimDir = C:\TempShots\tank
You don't have to use the word "tank", that can be anything you want...
but please keep it short and under 4 letters.
If you used   AnimDir = C:\TempShots\TM
then all of your screenshots would turn out like:
etc etc
So.... looking at this line...
AnimDir = C:\TempShots\tank
is the location of the folder where the screenshots are saved.
Whereas ...
is the prefix of the actual screenshot pictures
followed by the sequential numbering used by TreadMarks
to keep each screenshot seperate.

[[ Fourth Note ]] §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§

What the F12 key does...
Pressing the F12 key the 1st time, starts a series of screenshots.
Pressing the F12 key the 2nd time, stops the series of screenshots.
Waiting for one second, inbetween, insures you get one screenshot, maybe two.
I usually press the F12 key once,
count "one, one thousand",
and press the F12 key a second time.
You will definately notice your computer chugging
while the screenshots are being taken.
When the chugging stops, and you have fluid control of the game again,
you know that TreadMarks has stopped taking screenshots.
If your computer is still chugging, and the game is still stuttering,
then you did not press the F12 key cleanly, thereby stopping the screenshot process.
Just press the F12 key again to stop the screenshots,
no big deal.
Actually look at your keyboard to make sure that you are pressing the F12 key,
and not F11 or the printscreen key.

[[ Fifth Note ]] §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§

Well, that's about it. nothing mysterious going on,
and it is a pretty straight forward process.
Enjoy a great game!!
This FAQ is for TreadMarks version 1.0.1 through version 1.6

[[ other notes of interest... ]] §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§

The only other item to notice in your config.cfg file
are the following lines:
LogFileActive = 1
LogFileName = "tank.log"
By default, it is set to 1,
so a log file is created and grows and grows
every time you play treadmarks.
To deactivate the log file, set to 0, like this:
LogFileActive = 0
Or comment it out with a pound sign
#LogFileActive = 1
#LogFileName = "tank.log"
Also, feel free to delete the log file, tank.log, if you have one.
The game will always create a new one, if the option is enabled.
It is just a text file, so feel free to look at it, if you are curious about.
